Botox vs. Dysport: Choosing the Right Wrinkle Relaxer

Choosing the right wrinkle relaxer (Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau) for you depends on a few things such as:

  • How fast you want your treatment to kick in

  • How much of a weakening effect you want it to have (how “frozen")

  • How long you want it to last

Comparing Botox to Dysport

I’ve done split face studies to test out all the neurotoxins on the market (you can check out the video down below).

Botox compared to Dysport seems to have less of a weakening or paralytic effect. So if it’s your first time and you’re really nervous and wanna tread lightly, then perhaps try Botox.

Let’s say you forgot to schedule your appointment and you have to attend a wedding or special event in 3 or 4 days where you need to look relaxed and refreshed. In that case, you wanna go with Dysport being that it kicks in faster (Botox usually kicks in at around 5-6 days, sometimes longer).

If you have strong facial muscles, this is something your injector should know, then you may want to try Dysport. I tell my patients who have strong facial muscles to try Dysport to see if it’s better at providing a weakening effect. Some have made the switch because they feel it does a better job at relaxing their strong muscles.

How long will your Botox treatment last

Now we get to longevity. Longevity of treatment depends on the area of the face you are treating. Click here to learn more.

All the wrinkle relaxers on the market (Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, Xeomin) all seem to last around the same amount of time. (See video below)

If you’re in love with your Botox or Dysport treatments but you wish there was a way for your treatment to last longer have no fear, there is a longer lasting “tox” coming to the market! Read more below.

A longer lasting Botox

There is a new wrinkle relaxer coming to the market later this year that will be the longest lasting. Treatments can be expected to last for around 6 months. They designed this toxin so that people can have longer lasting treatments. Expect to get treated twice a year as opposed to 3-4 times a year. This “toxin” (wrinkle relaxer) doesn’t have a name yet but you can read more about it by clicking here.

This blog will be uploaded as new wrinkle relaxers come to the market so be sure to check back.
